A 28-year-old Illinois man who fired a gun during an argument in Janesville last September takes a plea deal in Rock County Court.

According to online court records, Nicholas Russell plead guilty Friday to felony endangering safety by reckless use of a firearm and no contest to misdemeanor operating a firearm while intoxicated.

Judge Jeffrey Kuglitch held open his finding of guilt in the felony case but found Russell guilty of the misdemeanor. He can petition the court to have the felony dismissed if he successfully completes two years of probation.

Janesville Police were dispatched to the 1300 block of Hamilton Avenue just after 1:00 am on September 29th on the report that two people were arguing and that one of them had shot off a gun.

Officers found Russell hiding in a wooded area and took him into custody without incident.
