Chief Andre Sayles is leaving the Beloit Police Department.

In a letter posted to the department’s Facebook page, Sayles says he accepted another job that will allow him to continue his career and contribute to a new community. The letter says more details on his new position will be announced later.

Sayles started his law enforcement career with BPD in January 2005, serving as sergeant, lieutenant and captain before being appointed chief in 2021.

His last day with BPD will be June 6. In his farewell letter, he says he’s committed to providing any support needed in transitioning to a new chief.

The Beloit Police and Fire Commission will likely discuss next steps for finding Sayles’ successor at its next meeting on Monday, May 19.
