A Rock County Judge orders a third competency evaluation for a 21-year-old Janesville man accused of stabbing his eight-year-old sister to death last March.
Rock County Judge Derrick Grubb found Dayveon Lathrop competent to stand trial on charges of first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse following a court-ordered competency evaluation last May.
His case has proceeded forward for the last year with a five day trial scheduled to being July 28th.
In Rock County Court Thursday afternoon Lathrop’s attorney raised competency again and filed a new evaluation which had been completed by a doctor hired by the defense.
Assistant District Attorney David Olson asked the court to order a second competency evaluation of its own.
A review hearing is planned for June 6th.
