A 31-year-old Beloit man who owns a local funeral home is accused of impregnating a teenager back in 2017 when he was volunteering as a youth mentor at a Beloit non-profit.

Kevin D. Young Jr is charged in Rock County Court with sexual assault of a a child by a person who works or volunteers with children and child enticement.

According to the criminal complaint, Young met the victim when she was 14 and he was 23 because he was her mentor at Community Action of Rock and Walworth Counties.

Community Action Executive Director Marc Perry says it wasn’t a traditional mentoring program, in that the youth didn’t work one on one with volunteers, everything was done in groups. Young’s relationship with the non-profit ended in 2018.

While the victim became pregnant in 2017 and gave birth in 2018, she refused to speak to police until earlier this year.

In an interview with Beloit Police the victim disclosed that Young began grooming her when she was 15-years-old and eventually pressured her into oral sex and intercourse. She told police that she was not sexually active prior to Young.

Young provided a DNA sample to police back in 2018 which was matched to the victim’s child by the State Crime Lab last month.

Young is the owner of Young Funeral Home and Crematory in Beloit. According to an article in the Beloit Daily News, Young took over ownership of the former Foster Funeral and Cremation Service in 2023.

Young is scheduled to make his initial appearance in Rock County Court on June 10th.
