Janesville police remind residents they’ll be ramping up enforcement of the city’s amended anti-cruising ordinances.

The reminder comes as the school year winds down and the weather warms up.

The amendments to the ordinances were approved back in January. Roadways that are now covered by the ordinances include Milton Avenue north of Mount Zion Avenue, Humes Road and Deerfield Drive.

The new rules impose higher fines and give police the authority to impound and tow unregistered vehicles and vehicles operated by reckless drivers.

The police department says to expect more traffic officers in the new anti-cruising zones. They’ll be taking a proactive approach to traffic, equipment and loitering violations.

The department says the goal is not to harass individuals but to improve the quality of life for people who live in and visit the area.
