An Evansville sex offender who police accuse of teaching a 14-year-old who killed herself how to shoot a gun pleads no contest to a charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.

On Friday morning, 44-year-old William Drefahl waived his right to a preliminary hearing before Rock County Court Commissioner Mason Braunschweig.

According to the criminal complaint, police found videos on a cellphone that showed Drefahl teaching his son, 26-year-old William Drefahl, 20-year-old Alyssa Ahrens, and the teenager who died how to shoot guns.

Drefahl was convicted of capturing an intimate representation of a victim less than 18 years old in 2022 and is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Drefahl and Ahrens both face charges of sexual assault of a child, child sexual exploitation, and possession of child pornography.
