In about four weeks, the Children’s Museum of Rock County will launch construction of the museum in the former First National Bank building in downtown Janesville.
The children’s museum board of directors says it has given local contractor JP Cullen the clear to start work on the project at 100 W. Milwaukee St.
Children’s museum board president John Westphal says the board gave Cullen the green light after looking at construction bids last week. He says the bids give the board the fiscal “confidence” it was waiting for to launch the project.
The board says Cullen plans to start work in late June. By then, Westphal says the museum might have raised most of the $14.5 million it needs to revamp the former bank and open the museum for operation.
The news comes after the children’s museum launched a $500,000 matching campaign earlier this month to continue to raise funds as the project moves toward construction.
Last week, the Children’s Museum announced it has hired a new executive director, Kent Anderson.
