Chronic wasting disease is in Rock County. The Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection confirms that a Rock County deer farm has tested positive for CWD. The positive test came from a five and a half year-old doe. The premises will remain quarantined while DATCP and the U.S. Department of Agriculture veterinarians and staff conduct an epidemiological investigation. Chronic wasting disease is a deadly, neurological disease of deer, elk, and moose caused by an infectious protein called a prion that affects the animal’s brain.
