A Delavan man avoids jail time in a case where prosecutors say he fired a gun off in the town of La Prairie from his vehicle.

Thursday afternoon in Rock County Court 21 year-old Luis Villegas plead guilty to felony receiving stolen firearms. An additional charge of disorderly conduct was dismissed but read into the record.

Rock County Judge Ashley Morse sentenced Villegas to two years of probation.

According to the criminal complaint, Rock County Sheriff’s deputies went to the 800 block of Milton-Shopiere Road just before 11:30 p.m. on May 18th of 2024 for a report of shots fired.

Deputies received a vehicle plate number and description, and spotted the vehicle near Janesville where they conducted a “high-risk traffic stop.”

Villegas was arrested after police seized two guns -one of which was reported stolen -and ammunition authorities say they found inside the vehicle.
