A Beloit principal who recently won a pair of statewide awards is chosen to be the next superintendent of the Whitewater Unified School District.
Samuel Karns is principal of Todd Elementary School. He received a Principal Leadership Award from the Herb Kohl Education Foundation and was named the Elementary Principal of the Year by the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators.
The other finalist was Kurt Schneider, an administrator for a school districts in the Chicago suburbs.
The Whitewater School Board voted six to one Tuesday night night to approve a two-year contract for Karns which begins on July first.
