The attorney’s for a 30-year-old Janesville man accused of purposely crashing his car into a person driving a mini bike, raise this issue of competency.
Kade Larson appeared in Rock County Court Monday morning for what was supposed to be his preliminary hearing on charges of hit and run causing great bodily harm and two counts of attempted first-degree intentional homicide.
Because Court Commissioner Jack Hoag doesn’t have the authority to order a competency evaluation, the case was remanded to a judge.
According to the criminal complaint, two people were riding mini bikes through the parking lot at Pine Tree Plaza early the morning of May 12th when a man who had “flipped them off” earlier started careering toward them in a gray Ford Taurus.
One of the riders jumped off of his bike to get out of the driver’s way, but the other was struck by the car and sent flying through the air before striking the front door at Famous Footwear.
Police developed Larson as a suspect after reviewing surveillance footage in the area and vehicle registration records for gray Ford Taurus’ in Rock County.
When Police made contact with Larson at his home they found his vehicle had front end damage and fabric matching the victim’s pants stuck in the front quarter panel.
Larson is currently being held in the Rock County Jail on a $100,000 cash bond.
