The 16-year-old Beloit boy who was arrested in connection with the April 5th shooting death of 20-year-old Jaiden Benitez of Janesville is held in the Rock County Jail on a $200,000 cash bond.
Andre J. Rainey Jr. faces charges of party to the crime of first degree intentional homicide, attempted first-degree intentional homicide, two counts of attempted armed robbery, and possession of a firearm by an adjudicated delinquent of a felony.
According to the criminal complaint, Benitez was sitting in the driver’s seat of his vehicle, about to sell marijuana to Rainey and another suspect, when the two suspects in the back seat pulled guns on Benitez and his passenger.
When Benitez tried driving away, Rainey’s accomplice fired several shots, one of which fatally struck him.
Beloit Police haven’t released the name of the second suspect who’s actually accused of firing the shots. In an email, Director of Strategic Communications Sarah Lock said police Chief Andre Sayles is out of the office and wouldn’t be able to provide an update until Monday.
It’s assumed the shooter is still at large.
Rainey is due back in Rock County Court for an adjourned initial appearance on April 23rd.

In an earlier version of this story Jaiden Benitez’s name was spelled incorrectly
