SSM Health is partnering with the Beloit and Janesville farmers markets to address food insecurity in Rock County.
Community Health Regional Director Megan Timm says a new program allows residents to exchange SNAP dollars for market tokens, which then can be used to buy a variety of fresh foods from market vendors.
Timm says SSM actually has begun to screen hospital patients to learn if they face barriers to accessing fresh food. The new program is aimed at helping those identified through screenings as having a lack of fresh food and problems with food security.
The Beloit and Janesville farmers markets run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. May through October.
