Speed restrictions lifted along Rock River through Rock County

| By Big Radio News Staff |

Boating traffic and water sports return to Rock River after a long summer of high water.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Office officially lifted the slow/no-wake order on Rock County’s run of river from Lake Koshkonong south to Beloit on Saturday. It’s the first time this summer the river through the county is fully open to boat traffic.

After weeks of high water, the river at Afton dropped to less than 6½ feet, allowing the county to clear a slow/no-wake order that had been in effect for weeks on a 12-mile span of the river between Indianford and Beloit.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Office’s recreational safety Sgt. Shawn Natter leads the office’s water patrol. He says there was a noticeable uptick in boat traffic and water sports but no reported injuries. He says the sheriff’s office dealt mainly with compliance on boat equipment, registration and water safety.

Natter says sometimes after a long break in boating, people forget it’s the law to keep their watercraft at least 200 feet away from any other boats.
