Delivering Bags of Hope still needs volunteers for its annual grocery distribution effort.

Once organized by General Motors, the School District of Janesville took over the volunteer effort after the local assembly plant shut down.

Leaders purchase two weeks of groceries, then volunteers pack and deliver the food to 350 district families and 50 senior households. The donations are a substitute for when school-provided meals aren’t available during the holiday season.

The Dollar General warehouse will host the distribution event starting from 8:30 a.m. Dec. 14.

Heather North, the school district’s fundraising development leader, says people who want to help can give cash donations or volunteer to pack up or deliver the goods to families.

Donations can be made by texting “DELIVERHOPE” as one word to 41444.

A link to the volunteer sign-up form is available in the featured post on the “Delivering Bags of Hope” Facebook page.
