The Janesville Schools Outdoor Laboratory will host the first of a series of winter candlelight hikes across Rock County.
Sponsors for the hike at JSOL on Jan. 3 include the Rock County chapter of the Ice Age Trail Alliance and the School District of Janesville.
Hiking trails will feature bonfires and hot chocolate, s’more and other treat stations. Sponsoring groups will also accept donations during the hikes.
The Ice Age Trail Alliance is also hosting a hike at Storrs Lake Wildlife Area in the town of Milton on Jan. 11.
The published time for the hike is from 6 to 8 p.m., but Dennis James from the trail alliance says the hikes will be accessible before and after those times.
More hikes will be Feb. 1 at Androne Woods in the town of Newark, Feb. 8 in Rockport Park in Janesville, Feb. 15 at Magnolia Bluff County Park in the town of Magnolia and Feb. 22 at Rock River Heritage Park in the town of Janesville.
