A semi driver is dead after his truck crashed into a snow plow on Interstate 39/90 between Janesville and Beloit just before noon Friday.
The Rock County Highway Department says the crash occurred in the southbound lanes of the Interstate near the Highway 11/Avalon Road interchange.
The plow was clearing snow on the inside median when it was struck on the passenger side by the semitractor trailer.
The State Patrol says the impact caused the semi to jackknife and block all southbound lanes of the Interstate. The 59-year-old Milwaukee man who was driving the semi was fatally injured, the State Patrol said. Rock County says the plow driver said he was unhurt but was taken to a hospital to be checked out.
Traffic came to a standstill after the crash and was being rerouted along Highway 11, County G and Shopiere Road while authorities investigate. A couple of lanes have since reopened, but slowed traffic is expected to extend into Friday’s evening commute.
