Local school district finds itself needing more substitute teacher

The Janesville School District is exploring new ways to attract and recruit qualified substitute teachers. Director of Administration and Human Resources Scott Garner says the challenge is an overall shortage in the teaching profession. To aid in the search, teaching degrees are no longer required.  The district has taken to some non-traditional recruitment methods including buying advertising in movie theaters, and renting a kiosk at the Janesville Mall.  Garner says the district typically runs about 10% short of substitutes to fill vacancies in the classroom on any given day.
