Jefferson and Rock county firefighters battle a wildfire Saturday on marshland north of Lake Koshkonong.
Fort Atkinson Fire Department personnel were dispatched to fight the blaze on about 5 acres along Marsh Road in the town of Oakland, between Fort and Cambridge.
The department says firefighters found flames spreading rapidly toward a residential structure.
Firefighters from the Lakeside fire district based in Edgerton, Whitewater, Jefferson, Lake Mills, Cambridge and Rome were called in to assist.
It took 44 minutes to control the fire. No structural damage and no injuries were reported. The fire department says the fire originated when embers from a nearby debris burn were carried by the wind into the dried-out marsh.
In response, Fort Fire Chief Bruce Peterson issued a burn ban for his department’s jurisdiction, which covers the city of Fort Atkinson and parts of the surrounding towns of Koshkonong, Sumner, Hebron, Jefferson and Oakland.
