A Janesville man is arrested on suspicion of child pornography after police flagged him months ago for sending inappropriate messages to a child.
Janesville police say they arrested 26-year-old Carter J. Powers on five counts of possession of child pornography at home in the 4100 block of Kennedy Road.
It was after months of search warrants on electronic service providers helped develop him as a suspect in the child pornography case. Police say they got tips in February that Powers was sending a juvenile “inappropriate” messages.
During a search, Janesville detectives and street crimes officers along with Whitewater police and Janesville PD’s electronics-sniffing police dog, Maui, tracked down the devices police say contained illegal images of child pornography.
Police say Powers is held in the Rock County Jail pending an initial court appearance.
