(Gazette photo) Janesville police are investigating if speed and alcohol were factors in a deadly automobile accident on the city’s west side. Officer say the driver was headed out of town on West Court Street just east of Austin Road about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday when the vehicle drifted off the road. The investigation suggests the driver over-corrected and crossed the center line hitting a tree in the other ditch. Two passengers were thrown from the vehicle. One was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and the other passenger were taken to Mercy Hospital and Trauma Center. The road was closed for four hours while authorities investigated.
