A pavement buckling on the Interstate near Beloit causes a traffic backup more than six miles long.
A spokesperson for the Wisconsin Department of Transportation says I-39/90 northbound is reduced to a single lane near mile marker 181 while crews work to repair the buckle.
While the work is expected to wrap up by 4:00 Thursday afternoon, traffic delays could linger for some time.
The WisDOT warns buckles are most common when the weather quickly goes from cool to very hot, causing pavement to expand. This can cause concrete slabs of pavement to push against each other, and if the pressure becomes great enough the pavement can buckle.
