Beloit Superintendent of Schools Tom Johnson is very pleased the district will soon have an administrative position to address literacy. The program will focus on the formative years before school even begins. Johnson says many students start their school careers without anyone ever having read a book to them. Johnson says the district will work with several other agencies and organizations in the effort. He says this is also one way to deal with the achievement gap in schools.
