The Charles Tallman Archives building on the campus of the Rock County Historical Society (RCHS) will be extending its hours beginning this month. The building will now be open on Thursdays until 7 p.m.
The Archives building, which houses more than 12,000 photos, 100,000 documents, and 500 maps of historic Rock County, is open to the public. It serves as a resource for community members to search their own genealogy, or to simply research county history. Yearbooks, scrapbooks, and more round out the collection, which dates back to the 1830’s.
“Whether someone is looking for a specific item such as an old obituary, or wants to dig into their family’s roots, the Charles Tallman Archives is a treasure of historic information for the people of Rock County,” said RCHS Executive Director Mike Reuter.
The facility also houses the Rock County Genealogical Society (RCGS), an independent, nonprofit organization. The Archives building is open to all Rock County residents on Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Thursdays from 10 a.m.-7 p.m.
Admission for RCHS and RCGS members is free. The non-member admission price is $10. Research assistance is also available for a small, hourly fee.
