A 19-year-old Janesville man who’s accused of stabbing his grandfather in May of 2016 will go to a mental institution instead of prison.
Gavin D. Roetteger entered a plea of guilty to a charge of attempted first degree intentional homicide Thursday afternoon and based on a psychologists report Judge James Daley found him not guilty by reason of mental disease or defect.
According to the criminal complaint he hears voices and suffers from Schizophrenic symptoms.
Roetteger faces up to 40 years in a mental institution at sentencing on November 29th.
