A former Rock County Correction’s Officer, accused of stealing jewelry from an inmate, admits guilt in a plea deal which may keep him out of jail. Rock County Assistant District Attorney Cheniqua White says if 22-year-old Mitchell R. Wellnitz successfully completes 12-months probation and pays restitution, he will no longer have a felony on his record. Judge John Wood did admonish Wellnitz for violating the public trust, but also said it was not unusual to place first time offenders with no record on probation.
