Janesville city staff are recommending the City Council award the contract for removal of the Monterey Dam despite the fact that bids came in more than $400,000 more than project estimates.
City Engineer Mike Payne says staff have worked with low bidder Drax Incorporated out of Madison on some cost saving measures get get the project back under budget.
Payne says if the City Council approves awarding the contract when they meet at 6:00 Monday night, work could begin in July.
