The Perkins restaurant in Janesville abruptly closed Monday morning, coinciding with the national Perkins & Marie Callender’s LLC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.
A few employees loading a moving truck Monday afternoon said they came to work in the morning and were told the store was closed.
Perkins has not confirmed whether the closing of the Janesville location is a result of the bankruptcy.
Employees said the moving truck would be bringing the store materials to some of Perkins’ Madison-area locations.
Perkins previously filed for bankruptcy back in 2011, and the latest filing shows they owe more than $100 million to creditors.
Reuters is reporting “32 underperforming restaurants are being closed,” but otherwise the company plans to continue operating as normal. It is unclear if the Janesville Perkins is included in the list of underperforming locations.
