The Rock County Board is considering if the county owned Rock Haven nursing home is worth keeping. Supervisor Rick Richard is among those who suggest the question be studied. Richard says the facility is currently operated at a four-million dollar deficit. He says other Wisconsin counties, including Jefferson, have made the decision to stop operating their own facilities for much less of a deficit. Richard also expresses concerns about fines levied against Rock Haven and a low rating from Medicare.gov . He says if the county did decide against keeping Rock Haven, it wouldn’t be closed. He says operations would be transferred to a new company. The county board Thursday is expected to consider forming an ad hoc committee to study the question.
