Harvest hampered by wet conditions

After an extremely wet spring delayed the start of the planting season, late season rains are holding up harvest in Rock County. U-W Extension Agriculture Agent Nick Baker says the first killing frost may have ended the growing season, but extremely wet conditions are keeping combines out of the field. Baker says harvest is at least three to four weeks behind right now. He says conditions are so wet, mature soy beans are at risk of swelling and bursting in their pods, and corn could begin to rot or develop fungus. To complicate matters, Baker says grain prices are currently down.
