An Evansville Police Officer has been chosen as a first responder of the year for the 45th Assembly District. Representative Mark Spreitzer of Beloit tapped Officer Matthew Nankee for the honor. Spreitzer says he’s proud to recognize Nankee for selfless dedication and service to the community. Nankee is being credited with saving the live of a kayaker in Badfish Creek last March. After an extensive search, Nankee found the kayaker submerged in the water and performed lifesaving measures until help arrived. Nankee was honored along with first responders from other Assembly districts recently during ceremonies on the floor of the legislature.
