The greater Janesville community successfully votes the Janesville Woman’s Club the winner of a national contest for historic preservation.
The local non-profit earned the most votes out of the 1.1 million cast in the five-week, nationwide 2019 Partners in Preservation campaign, a community-based partnership from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The Janesville Woman’s Club will receive the full $79,330 they applied for, to fund repairs to their aging building.
President Anne Roe was overwhelmed by the support from the Janesville community, which she viewed as an underdog in the contest.
They competed with 19 organizations across the country, many with much larger followings and support bases.
Roe says the grant money will help the organization continue to support women and children for generations to follow.
