The City of Janesville is honoring former city manager Steve Sheiffer by naming a city park after him.
The city council voted earlier this week to rename Northeast Regional Park to Sheiffer Park.
Council member Doug Marklein introduced the idea and said Sheiffer deserves recognition for his work on the job and his dedication to expanding city parks and bike trails.
The city holding a park dedication ceremony and bike trail opening event Friday afternoon at 4:00 near the trail crossing at Huntington Avenue and Avery Lane.
They will unveil a sign and city leaders will deliver remarks along with Sheiffer himself.
