A local college is gaining a reputation for developing student leaders in the nursing field. Blackhawk Technical College nursing instructor Mary Mather says the two-year degree program developed a Student Nurses Association two-years ago. The Wisconsin Nurses Association has taken notice. The WNA has award BTC nursing student Bethanie Dodd with its Future Nursing Leader Award. Mather says this recognition typically goes to four-year colleges because of the additional time students have to develop their leadership skills. Mather says Dodd is a real stand out. Not just because of her academics and leadership roles, but also because she’s married with two young children.
