Janesville School District considers modifying high school schedule

The Janesville School district is considering abandoning the high school schedule model adopted six years ago for a more traditional eight period day.
Craig High School Principal Alison Bjoin told the Board of Education’s Personnel, Policy and Curriculum Committee Tuesday night that the current schedule is tough for kids pursuing college courses and work internships.
Currently three days a week students have eight classes a day, and two days a week they have four classes a day that are 86 minutes long.
If the new schedule is approved by the school board, students will have an eight-period day with 47-minute classes and five minutes of passing time on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Wednesdays would be an eight-period day with 44-minute classes, five minutes of passing time and a 20-minute homeroom meeting with teachers checking in with their assigned students.
