Town of Beloit police limiting in-person contact with citizens

The town of of Beloit Police Department is changing how officers handle certain types in the wake of a global health crisis.
Lieutenant Bryan Hasse says officers will still respond in-person to emergency and priority calls for service.
Hasse says effective immediately town of Beloit officers will make phone contact with citizens for non-emergency and non-priority calls such as civil disputes, lost property, animal complaints, and thefts. Officers will respond in person to these types of calls if necessary or if more detailed follow up is needed.
Citizens can also report crimes online at townofbeloit.org/citizen-self-report.
Hasse says the change is an effort to reduce the possibility of exposure to citizens and to officers. Police are also taking additional precautions to ensure citizens and officers reduce their risk of infection by supplying officers with personal protection
equipment and disinfectant supplies.
