Spike in absentee voting and polling site changes in Janesville

Crowds may not be flocking to the polls for the spring election, but it doesn’t mean residents aren’t voting. Janesville City Clerk Dave Godek says absentee voting requests are up 700% over last year. Godek says his biggest concern is people won’t mail them back in time to be counted. The deadline to request a mail-in absentee ballot is April 2nd. Because of the lower than expected turn-out expected at the polls, Godek says some sites are being consolidated to support social distancing guidelines. Voters at the New Life Assembly of God, Church of Latter-Day Saints, St. Mark’s Church, First Lutheran Church, and Blain’s Supply will cast their ballot at the old Sears store on Milton Avenue. The polling sites at the Job Center, Mt. Calvary Church, and Faith Lutheran Church will all be located at the Job Center.
