Rock County is seeing a higher volume of COVID-19 cases as its testing capacity starts to increase.
The Wisconsin Department of Health Services reported 13 new confirmed positive cases in Rock County on Thursday afternoon. The most new cases the county had seen in any individual day up to this point was six.
Thursday’s batch also tied for the most total test results the county health department had received in a single day, with 88. Over the last two weeks, Rock County saw an average of 36.6 tests returned each day.
Health officials have warned that COVID-19 numbers are expected to rise as the amount of testing increases. The state now has more laboratory capacity to run tests, and area health providers are working to increase the testing materials available to them.
Overall, 34 percent of Rock County coronavirus patients have required hospitalization, compared to a statewide average of 27 percent.
The county is going on 10 days since its most recent COVID-19 death was reported on April 14, its longest stretch since the first local casualty on March 31.
