Janesville police stepping up weekend traffic enforcement on Milton Avenue

The Janesville Police Department and Rock County Sheriff’s Office plan to have a larger presence on Milton Avenue in Janesville this weekend.
The law enforcement agencies announced “high-volume traffic enforcement” on the major thoroughfare over the next few days.
Police say the effort is focused on reducing reckless driving, speeding and racing on the stretch of Highway 26 that cuts through Janesville.
“If you plan on ‘cruising’ this weekend, you’re safer at home,” police wrote in a news release.
They referred to this type of driving “anti-social behavior,” as opposed to pro-social activities.
This portion of Milton Avenue is known colloquially as “the strip,” where local youths often drive their vehicles on a loop between the intersections with Morse Street to the north and Mount Zion Avenue to the south.
