A Libertarian candidate is entering the race for the 44th District Assembly seat up for grabs in the November election.
Reese Wood announced his intention to run for the position currently held by Democrat Deb Kolste of Janesville, who announced earlier this year she will not be seeking re-eleciton.
Wood is the fourth candidate to register his campaign with the Wisconsin Elections Commission for the race. Spencer Zimmerman and Janesville City Council President Sue Conley are both running as Democrats, and DuWayne Severson is running for the seat as a Republican.
“The people of Wisconsin’s 44th assembly district are ready for an independent liberty minded representative,” Wood said in a press release. “As your representative I will explain every vote I make in the assembly and make it available online. I will seek out and work with representatives who are interested in bringing a new level of transparency to the Wisconsin legislature.”
Wood previously ran against Democrat Mark Spreitzer of Beloit for the 45th District Assembly seat in the 2018 election. At that time, Wood listed an address on Hindsdale Avenue in Beloit, but he currently lists his address on Green Valley Drive in Janesville.
WCLO reviews Wisconsin court records for every candidate, which shows Wood was convicted in 2010 for misdemeanor domestic battery. He previously told the Janesville Gazette he believes he has turned his life around since then.
