Janesville, Edgerton, Milton launching ‘King of the Rock’ census contest

Local officials are trying to re-energize the effort to fill out the census.
The cities of Janesville, Edgerton and Milton will hold a press conference Monday afternoon to announce a contest to see which municipality can have the highest self-response rate for the 2020 census.
The “King of the Rock” competition will run through Labor Day, September 7, with the winning city’s council receiving pizza from the other two.
All three are emphasizing the importance of filling out the census so the county and each city can receive as much federal funding as possible based on the population counts determined by the census.
This year is the first that the census can be filled out online, and all three cities are seeing a high rate of voluntary compliance.
Milton leads the way so far at 79.4 percent, but Edgerton is not far behind at 78.6 percent and Janesville comes third at 75.8 percent. Beloit is below the state and county average at 66.5 percent.
