Beloit committee will gather public feedback in search for new police chief

The City of Beloit’s police and fire commission plans to engage local stakeholder groups and the community at large in the search for a new police chief.
The committee met Tuesday afternoon with GovHR USA Vice President Lee Szymborski about how it would like the search process to work moving forward.
The group plans to reach out to area business organizations, non-profits and activists including the Greater Beloit Chamber of Commerce, YWCA Rock County, Community Action, Latino Services Providers Coalition, Downtown Beloit Association and SURJ-Beloit.
Committee members discussed holding some form of virtual public town hall meetings to let community members share what type of profile they would like to see in Beloit’s next police chief.
Szymborksi said this information will help them market the position to potential candidates and also give the commission a roadmap during the interview and selection process.
PFC President Ron Watson expressed a desire to conduct a thorough search without dragging it out too long.
Last week, the commission named police inspector Thomas Stigler as the interim police chief after David Zibolski left the position to become the chief in Fargo, North Dakota.
