Homicide charge against Beloit man dismissed after completing probation

A Beloit man has the homicide charge against him dismissed after completing probation as part of a felony hold-open agreement.
Now-21-year-old Nikolai Wasilewski pleaded guilty in June of 2016 to homicide by negligent handling of a dangerous weapon, endangering safety by use of a dangerous weapon and being a minor in possession of a weapon.
He was 17 when he accidentally shot 17-year-old Marcus Seichter in the face while playing with a handgun.
Rock County Judge Richard Werner agreed to hold open the felony homicide charge and placed him on probation for two years. Judge John Wood later took over the case and extended the probation an additional year.
While on probation, Wasilewski was convicted of misdemeanor obstructing an officer for lying to Beloit police about another accidental shooting he witnessed in July of 2019.
Prosecutors initially filled a motion to revoke the felony hold open agreement, but assistant district attorney Mark Jahnke withdrew that motion this week and Judge Wood agreed to dismiss the felony homicide charge.
