The Wisconsin Department of Transportation is seeking public input on its proposed reconstruction project for Highway 140 in southeastern Rock County.
The 4-mile stretch between Clinton and the state line is scheduled to close for the construction in the spring of 2024 to rebuild the portion of the road that received temporary repairs in July of 2019.
Project Leader Della Koenig said it will remain a two-lane highway, but they will expand the shoulders and add rumble strips to the edges and center line.
They also plan to install a roundabout at the intersection with Highway 67. Koenig said it is one of the top 25 crash locations on southwest Wisconsin highways, with a rate double the state average.
The project also includes minor improvements at three other intersections along Highway 140.
The Wisconsin DOT will work with the Illinois DOT on a detour, with the intention of maintaining some local access for emergency vehicles.
