Healthcare providers warn of post holiday COVID-19 surge

The holidays could present a challenge for local hospitals. Beloit Health System’s Dr. Vijaya Somaraju warns of consequences if people don’t follow the recommendations to prevent the spread of COVID-19.  During a virtual press conference Tuesday morning hosted by the Rock County Health Department, Somaraju predicted a surge in hospitalizations after the holidays if people didn’t take precautions.  Health Department Epidemiologist Nick Zupan reinforced the warning by pointing out the number of hospitalized patients doubled over just the last three weeks.  All of the healthcare workers on the ZOOM call renewed a now familiar plea for people to wear masks, socially distance, practice good hand hygiene, and especially avoid gatherings during the holidays.
