UPDATE: Nearly 30 inmates at Rock County Jail test positive for COVID-19

The Rock County Jail has a COVID-19 outbreak.
The Rock County Sheriff’s Office said as of 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, 29 inmates have tested positive, with 32 tests coming back negative.
Two inmates showed symptoms and first tested positive on Tuesday. Since then, jail staff have conducted 116 tests and are still waiting for the results from nearly half of them, which they expect to receive on Thursday.
Commander Erik Chellevold said the first batch of tests went for inmates who had the most close contact with the two original cases.
New inmates at the jail are kept in a separate unit to quarantine for at least the first 14 days of their incarceration before moving into the general population.
Jail officials are still working to determine the source of the latest outbreak.
