Janesville Police are warning citizens of a suspicious person accused of impersonating a water department employee.
According to a news release, on Monday around 2:30 p.m. a man gained entry into an elderly woman’s home on the 1600 block of Liberty Lane after claiming to work for the Janesville Water Department.
The victim reported that the man asked her to turn on the water and checked it with some sort of laser device and looked around but left without taking anything.
The suspect was wearing a lanyard with photo ID and drove a blue vehicle.
Janesville Police say the water department is currently working in the area changing out water meters but they will send out a notice in the mail to schedule an appointment.
City of Janesville employees wear identification, drive vehicles, and wear clothing identifying them as city employees.
