Blackhawk Technical College offers free online computer skills course

Blackhawk Technical College is offering a free online basic computer skills program in conjunction with the Wisconsin Technical College System that is being paid by a grant from the U.S. Department of Labor.
Dislocated workers, veterans and other learners looking to improve information technology and computer skills are encouraged to investigate the nine-step online course at www.wisc-online.com and clicking on the Computer Skills Course link at the top of the page.
Students may complete any or all of the nine modules offered, depending on their individual needs. Subjects, which may be selected at a user’s preference, range from a basic introduction to computer use to more detailed subjects such as managing personal data. The website includes a registration link and as well as the anticipated amount of time needed to complete a module.
“The ability to use technological tools to access and manage information is essential to success in higher education and in today’s workplace,’’ said Megan Ostrowsky, BTC’s director of its Beloit Center campus.  “This course provides students and job seekers with the critical knowledge and skills practice required to become proficient in digital literacy.”
Funding of the $23.1 million program is made available through the Dept. of Labor’s Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training grant.
