Homicide suspect pleads guilty to Janesville’s first murder of 2020

An Illinois man pleads guilty to a reduced homicide charge for the murder of a Janesville man last January.
25-year-old Corvasie Weaver of Joliet was initially charged with first-degree reckless homicide in the shooting death of 40-year-old James Chestnut outside of a house party on West Racine Street.
As part of a plea agreement, Weaver pleaded guilty Tuesday to a second-degree reckless homicide charge, and prosecutors agreed to cap their argument for sentencing at 12 years of prison and 10 years of extended supervision.
He was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Tennessee more than two months after the shooting.
His sentencing hearing is scheduled for April 7.
