The City of Beloit’s phone line system is receiving an upgrade and may experience some phone outage starting 11:00 a.m. Thursday. today. Strategic Communications Director Sarah Lock says the phone lines will transfer over from old copper lines to new fiber optic lines. Lock says this has to occur prior to the end of the month or the city will lose phone service because copper lines are obsolete. She says residents’ homes will not be affected and it’s only impacting the City’s phone line system for the municipal government. They anticipate a Public Works outage from about 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., and an outage at other city buildings from about 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Those needing emergency service can still call 911, or the non-emergency number, 608-757-2244.
